Home Office Filing Cabinets
By Denys RobinsonWhen designing your office one important aspect you should not overlook is the filing cabinet. There are a series of items you will need for your office, obviously these will include: desk, chairs, all your computer and electronic devices, and these cabinets.
When you are designing your office or refurbishing it, it is always a good idea to check the available
space you have. Once you have measured the area it is a simple matter of drawing on that same basic blueprint where the different items and pieces of furniture will be placed. Normally you should think of having your filing cabinets within easy reach but without interfering with movement (in or out of your chair, for example).
You can choose to have one or more, depending on your needs and how you envision your office. These are the safe and proper places to store and keep your files organized, which should be arranged by subjects and each group, clear of the next - one of the worst things that can happen from the point of view of efficiency (and therefore work output) is getting important documents mixed up).
For the home office you will normally have especially important in-house documents, such as everything relating to bills (emitted by you or received by you) in a specific place. Anything to do with personnel and the accounting side of things should not be accessible to others and therefore should not be placed in open shelves but kept in place in lockable filing cabinets.
The cabinets come in different sizes and in various dimensions. Frequently smaller models are used for additional storage space where you can keep technical equipment. Most cabinets have either hinged doors, sliding doors but you can also find models with shutter blinds. Other file cabinet styles come with wheels making them flexible with regards to location in the office. A great advantage of these is that you can easily move them out to another office or meeting room.
Filing cabinets have to be strong and robust and this means that they can hold heavy folders and large-sized documents. Additionally this makes them safer.
Typically they will have adjustable shelves and compartments allowing you to store many files and at the same time using the available space to the greatest benefit.
Lockable metal cabinets keep important documents safe against fire and burglar. In addition to the stacks of paper files many come with hanging file folders.
Aside from the typical document filing requirements you can also keep office supplies and other items.
Office furniture companies offer various styles and designs of file cabinet models cabinets which vary in color, type of material (wooden, steel etc.) so that the cabinets can be chosen to match the other office equipment.
